How to hang drapery rods!!!

To hang a drapery rods, you need at least two brackets, some screws or nails, a hammer or screw driver, a step ladder, and a level. Once you have gathered your materials, it is helpful to find a partner who can hand you things while you are standing on the stepladder, and basically function as a second pair of hands. Hanging drapes can usually be done by one person, but it easier as a team effort.

Some rods will come with brackets as part of a kit. Others will require you to purchase brackets separately. Make sure that the brackets you choose are the right size for your rod. Also, consider the drapery you are trying to hang. If the rod will not show, then getting decorative brackets is a waste of money, and you should choose simple, cheap ones. On the other hand, if the rod and brackets will show, then try to find brackets that will be decorative, or at least unobtrusive.

Make sure you have at least two brackets. If your drapes are heavy or the rod is long, you may want to use more. Once you have decided how many brackets to use, then you can hold one in place on the wall, and mark the location of the screws or nails you are going to use.

Go ahead and attach the bracket to the wall using the screws or nails. Screws will be sturdier, but nails will leave smaller holes when taken out, and should be fine for light drapes. If you live in an apartment, or or planning to take the draperies with you when you leave your home, it is best to use nails as long as the curtains are not too heavy.

Now, take the rod and rest it in the bracket you have just secured to the wall. Take a second bracket, and put it in about the place you think it will go. Put the level on top of the rod, and make sure it shows that your brackets are flush. If they are not, then move the unsecured bracket until you get a level reading that shows a horizontal line. Now you are ready to attach the second bracket. Do the same with any additional brackets.

If you are using screws, an electric screwdriver is helpful, and if you hit a stud, it will be vital, as not many people are strong enough to drive a screw into a stud with their bare hands! It is also good to use wall anchors. When using anchors, you will need to have a drill bit for your electric screwdriver. The hole for the anchor will be drilled one size larger than the actual screws. The anchor will be gently pushed into the wall, using a rubber mallet if necessary. The screw can then by screwed (by hand) into the plastic anchor.

Once the brackets are all secured to the wall, you can hand your rod and your draperies, and you may admire your work!

• You're now ready to install the curtain rod. Just push the rod into the brackets until it clicks into place. Once you have positioned the rod correctly, secure it into place by fastening the cam bolts.
• Attach the curtain pulley to the wall directly under the cord opening. You can now use the cord to open and close the carriers. Pull the curtain cord until you get the desired length then tie it into a knot to fasten and trim the excess cord.
